PAINTINGS on MULTIPLE-EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHS

The Fusion hybrid photo-based paintings begin as multiple exposure photographs, primarily made in Italian museums, archaeological sites or parks from Campania to Tuscany. The photographs are developed, processed and edited in Photoshop, then digitally layered with photographs of my paintings in progress. This layering process creates infinite variations of individual images, paralleling the infinite variety of marks in my paintings. I edit the iterations of the images to a select few that are printed with archival pigment inks on archival photographic paper.

The printed images are then layered with washes of oil paint in various viscosities. With both the digital layering and painting processes I am fusing the past with the present. This process is an attempt to story forth and emphasize what I feel is relevant from our collective histories and simultaneously disrupt, dissolve and obscure those past ideologies that have zero relevance for 21st century humanity.

The Fusions culminate in resonant echoes of the past integrating and converging with my paintings in the present. They are disruptive narratives that speak of a transformed and altered world and a shifting paradigm suffused in an illuminated optimism.

The photo-based paintings are produced as unique pieces at 30 x 30 inches or 40 x 40 inches or editions of 10 individually painted prints at 30 x 3 0 inches.

PAINTINGS on MULTIPLE-EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHS

These photo based/mixed media archival prints fuse the vast array of art historically significant paintings and sculpture that serve as a point of departure for my work with my paintings in their various states. They are conceived employing a multiple exposure technique that utilizes the random extraction, diffusion and merging of images within the camera. These captures then undergo extensive manipulation and layering in the computer. The final images are printed on Canson Infinity Platine Fiber Rag paper, providing a luxurious satin finish and surface for additional work using oil paint combined with an alkyd resin medium.

The archival pigment prints are produced at Rush Creek Editions in Santa Fe, New Mexico with Archival Pigment Inks on Canson Infinity Platine Fiber Rag paper.

The unique painted photographs are sized at 36 x 36 inches unframed or 44 x 44 inches unframed.

The edition painted photographs are 30 x 30 inches (image size) / 36 x 36 inches (paper size unframed) The edition size is 10 prints and each print is further worked by the artist after printing with oil washes rendering each numbered print unique.
