MULTIPLE-EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHS

Roma Locarno Garden I, 2022-23, archival pigment print on Canson Infinity Platine Fiber Rag paper, edition of 3 in two sizes: image: 30 x 30 inches / 76.2 x 76.2 cm and image: 40 x 40 inches / 101.5 x 101.5 cm

The multiple exposure photographs, are made in Italian museums, archaeological sites, gardens and/or parks from Campania to Tuscany and often fused with photographs of my gardens Santa Fe, New Mexico and Los Angeles or gardens I encounter wherever I travel. The photographs are developed, processed and edited in Photoshop, then often digitally layered with photographs of my paintings in progress. This layering process creates countless variations of individual images, paralleling the infinite variety of marks in my paintings and in nature.

Within this body of work I am simultaneously pursing two parallel conceptual themes: one based on challenging irrelevant narratives of the past, the other celebrating the essential relevance of the primal human connection with nature. Both bodies of work converge to mirror and embody a flourishing landscape garnered from history, translating the vital implications of an accumulated past united with a concerned present to beckon a sustained future.

With the digital layering process I am fusing the past with the present in an attempt to story forth and emphasize what I feel is relevant from our collective histories and simultaneously disrupt, dissolve and obscure those past ideologies that have zero relevance for 21st century humanity. These images culminate in resonant echoes of the past integrated with longing the essential role of mythologies and nature in our lives. They are disruptive narratives that speak of a transformed and altered world and a shifting paradigm suffused in an illuminated optimism implying an architecture of collective history and memory; a mirage of an archaic oasis in which we can revel.

The photographs are printed using archival pigment inks on Canson Infinity Platine Rag paper in editions of 3 with an image size of 30 x 30 inches and 40 x 40 inches.
