Holding Light Commissions

Study for Holding Light 2013.10 - Chromatic Scale, 2013

Single panel Holding Light 2013.14.2 - front and back sides.

I have accepted commissions for the Holding Light watercolor series since 2013 and still do. After consulting with the collector, I create several color studies for the piece based on the collector’s preference and the number of panels. Each study is either a chromatic scale as in Holding Light 2013.10, random colors as in Holding Light 2016.16 or shifting color value scales as in Holding Light 2018.01. The price ranges between $400. and $250. per panel depending on the number of panels in the commission.

The act of painting each piece is unplanned, intuitive and improvised. Each panel is painted with watercolor, small brush strokes of the paint define, trap and leave exposed tiny points of the paper. Each point of exposed paper is counted and a mark of the same watercolor is made for every 100 points; the count being mounted on the back of each panel (see image lower left).

I have long been intrigued by the sensitivity of watercolor; it is direct, unforgiving and intimate. Painting these watercolors correlates to the practiced meditation of yoga, as does the counting of the points of light. I see and experience each panel as a mantra. In as much as watercolor painting is in direct opposition to the countless-ness of the large paintings, it is an exercise in placing my studio practice in the immediate, the present, the personal and the spontaneous.

Please contact me directly or one of the galleries that represent the work for more information about commissioning a Holding Light piece.
